Kalyani University

University of Kalyani was established on 1 november 1960th With 400 hectares (1.6 km2) campus has a three-star accreditation by national and Accreditation Council (NAAC). This university is providing technical guidance and leadership to 37 affiliated universities in 16 Nadia, 20 in Murshidabad and 1 in North 24 Parganas.

There are 217 teachers help 2000 graduates and PhD students. It has powers 1.Science 2.Arts and Trade 3.Education 4.Engineering Technology and Management 5th Right 6th Music and Fine Arts. The total number of universities is 25 Prof. (Dr.) Alok K Banerjee is Rector of this University.

The university is situated in a village surrounded by the country in a peaceful environment. But its distance from Kolkata is only 50 km. This locational advantage of the University makes it particularly suitable for "cafeteria" approach to higher education.

Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Kalyani was established as a school on the recommendation of the UGC in 1985. Since then the department working with the collection and dissemination of environmental awareness among the population through the creation of human experience through M. Sc, M. Phil and research programs.

Environmental Science is an interdisciplinary subject, and therefore the department has cut six permanent faculty members with different areas Reseach - Biodiversity, ecology, geology, Atmospheric Sciences, the chemical contamination of cell signaling and Toxicology. The department has six specialized laboratories and developed a general, all of which are directed towards continuous improvement.

Responsibility to consultants and projects in collaboration with the Institute for Industry.This is planned Center for Environmental Biotechnology (møffe supported) since 2002 and also part of the Sustainable Development Networking Program (SDNP) since 2005.
