Finally the details on the Vision EfficientDynamics Concept that BMW will show in Frankfurt in a couple of weeks.
This vehicles is powered by a three cylinder turbo diesel engine supported by two electric motors, It has a top speed of 250 km/hr and can do 0-100 km per hour in 4.8 seconds. Where the vehicles really excels is in its emissions output. While running in diesel, the vehicle has a consumption of 3.76 liters per 100 kms or around 99 Gms of CO2 per km.
The chassis of the Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept is built mostly of aluminum, with roof and outer body made up almost entirely of a special polycarbonate material. The car is 181.1 inches long, 74.8 inches wide and 48.8 inches high. It has a 2 +2 seating, which includes 5.3 cu. ft. of luggage space.
Vision concept is drive by three sources: two electric motors (one on each axle, which gives the car all-wheel drive in electric mode) and a turbo diesel engine (in front of the rear axle). The synchronous electric motor in front can provide a continuous output of 80 horsepower and peak torque of 162 lb.-ft. via a two-step, single-speed reduction gearbox. For that extra kick needed as they pass, the same engine delivers 112 hp for up to 30 sec. And up to 139 hp in 10 sec.
