Encouraged by the response to the swinging diesel Cayenne, Porsche German sports car major is planning to publish a range of engine options in the Indian market with a strong focus on diesel.
Porsche plans to increase its diesel portfolio with the diesel version of its Panamera sedan. Also expand its global portfolio of vehicles with the launch of super fast cars as the new Porsche 911 Turbo and Porsche 911 GT3 RS next year. On the anvil are hybrid and electric versions as well.
"Cayenne diesel has been very well received around the world. Cayenne diesel sold very quickly here, which shows the desire of the market, and here in India," said Rod Wallace, MD Precision Car India Pvt Ltd, official importer of Porsche.
And while all this happens, the company has expanded to six different cities in two days. But the question is whether a broader product portfolio, which requires a company that only sells 150-200 cars a year. Experts say why not.
"With the increasing competition from Audi and Lamborghini, it makes sense to offer a full range of products. It is understandable that the market is small, but these measures are not undertaken in the next 2-3 years in mind, but with the next 10 -- 20 years in mind, "said Srinivas Krishnan, auto expert at BS Motoring.
Over 70 percent of cars sold by SUVs and Porsche are limited quantities from the portfolio of sports cars. Of the new Panamera four-door, the company expects additional quantities kick-in.
For now, despite the slowdown in the company eyeing 20 percent growth this calendar year, but with a larger portfolio of products is more engine choices and a wider scope, hoping to repeat the growth rate in 2010.
