World Diabetes Day

Today is World Diabetes Day and the announcement of the 20th annual World Diabetes Congress of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) last month, India is the world leader in the looming epidemic of diabetes is presented with an alarm.

According to IDF, India has the largest number at 50.8 million people with diabetes, followed by China with 43.2 million with 26.8 million kr. 58.7 million expected cases of diabetes in India in 2010 - nearly 7 percent of our adult population. The figures are alarming, and experts say we need to press the panic button.

Said Dr. (Col.) Surinder Kumar Sri Ganga Ram Hospital, "Stress, diet and physical activity are responsible for increasing cases of diabetes in India. The people must seize the risk factors and make a point to check their blood sugar."

Some of the prominent names from the world of glamor with diabetes also say that the lives of diabetics do not have to be difficult. Actor Kamal Hassan, politician Sushma Swaraj, VJ Gaurav Kapoor and cricketer Wasim Akram has put a brave face dealing with diabetes. "I was diagnosed with diabetes at 23 But the life of a diabetic is normal if you change your lifestyle. Just as reducing salt, sugar and caffeine, and the introduction of physical activity into their routine," said Gaurav Kapoor.

In an earlier interview that former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 30, said: "I do not believe that a diabetes is a major obstacle to a normal life. Drawing on their level of blood sugar and maintain healthy lifestyle is the best way to handle it. "

The DIRC and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has suggestions on how local communities can help stop the epidemic, including increased access to safe, affordable and beverages. We need lawyers to:

  • Make healthy food and beverages more available and affordable and reduce the availabilityof less healthy foods and beverages in public places like schools, public buildings, libraries and parks
  • To increase the number of grocery stores in low income neighborhoods
  • Improve mechanisms to purchase food directly from local farms
  • Providing incentives to retailers to offer healthy food and drink choices
  • Restrict advertising of less healthy foods and beverages
  • Encourage smaller sizes of food vendors
  • Discourage consumption of sweetened beverages

Educate someone who knows about the risk of diabetes

If you can not attend an event on World Diabetes Day, or witness to a monument or a building which is indicated in blue, you can honor today to teach a second, the risk of diabetes. They are, in DIRC :

  • Hereditary diabetes
  • Increasing age
  • Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle

Everyone can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes :
